Costa Takes Delivery of New 114,500-Ton Flagship Favolosa
Published Friday, July 1st 2011Costa Cruises’ new flagship, the 114,500-ton Costa Favolosa, was delivered June 30 at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy. The ship cost approximately 510 million euros. The 3,800-passenger Costa Favolosa is the largest ship to fly the Italian flag. Its naming ceremony will take place July 2 in the Piazza Unità d’Italia in Trieste, Italy.
“For us, the delivery of the Costa Favolosa is a twofold source of pride,” said Pier Luigi Foschi, chairman and CEO of Costa Crociere SpA. “She’s a wonderful ship, a real ‘contemporary enchanted castle’ with incredible technological features where our guests will experience a ‘fairy-tale holiday.’ But it also confirms the soundness of our company.”
Costa Favolosa is the next to last of nine new ships that Costa Cruises ordered from Fincantieri. The next ship to enter service will be Costa Fascinosa, also under construction at Marghera, to be delivered in spring 2012.
Costa Favolosa features includes a new entertainment area for teenagers and adults with a 4-D cinema, PlayStation World and a bar with ice cream, drinks and popcorn. There’s also a new outdoor Acqua Park, with water games and a pirate galleon.
