Cruise ships in Savannah could lead to more than 1,400 jobs

A new study says that a cruise ship terminal in the Savannah area could mean more than 1,400 new jobs and $90 million in economic impact by 2020.

Savannah TV station WTOC, reported that the numbers were part of a feasibility study released Tuesday.

Bruno Ramos of BEA Architects said he and his partners were hired to study whether a cruise ship terminal would work in Savannah. The study was funded by the city, state and groups such as the Savannah Area Convention & Visitors' Bureau.

Backers of a project to bring cruise ships to Savannah say they're hopeful the project could start within the next year, with cruise ship operations starting in 2015.
