The Disney Cruise Line has announced it has added Alaska to its range of destinations for 2012.
The new route, which will see the Disney Wonder liner depart from Seattle for a seven night trip, has been added after the company identified Alaska as a popular destination for people who have not tried cruise holidays before. Disney cruises appeal to those trying a cruise for the first time, and are especially suited to family groups.
The 2700-capacity cruise ship Disney Wonder will undertake 14 cruise trips from Seattle up the Pacific Northwest Coast. The voyage will stop at various sites of interest along the way, including the Tracey Arm fjord close to Juneau, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and finally Victoria in British Columbia. Voyages will commence on May 28, 2012.
Disney cruises typically provide a good selection of larger cabins which are suitable for family groups up to five people. In addition, the Disney ships offer a particularly good range of children's clubs and activities, allowing parents with some free time to themselves.
The Disney Wonder ship boasts 11 decks, and measures almost 1000 feet in length, offering a huge variety of dining rooms, youth clubs, swimming pools, staterooms, entertainment venues and nightclubs. The design of the ship is based on classic Art Nouveau cruise liners, but with added Disney touches, such as a statue of Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid, which greets guests as they embark.
Disney joins a variety of cruise line operators offering cruises from Seattle to Alaska, including Holland America, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises, to name a few.
