November 29, 2011 - MSC Cruises Facebook fans are being offered a unique opportunity to win a gastronomical cruise aboard MSC Splendida with Italian celebrity chef Mauro Uliassi by simply creating and submitting a winning first course dish in an on-line competition starting tomorrow (30 November). 


The winner of the Create your first MSC dish” Facebook competition will cruise the Mediterranean from 7 – 14 January 2012 and enjoy ports of call in Spain, Malta, Tunisia and France while being entertained with fine cuisine demonstrations by chef Mauro Uliassi from the Italian region Le Marche. 

                                                                                                 

Cruise guests will also be treated to food and wine tastings from the distinguished Uliassi kitchen where signature dishes will be enriched by the authentic taste of superior wines produced in his land of origin. 


Intended as a way of enhancing and celebrating the art of fine dining while cruising with Uliassi, the “Create your own first MSC dish” Facebook competition requires future cruise guests to post their best first course dish on-line together with a photograph of their culinary creation. They must also give a description of how they came up with the idea for the dish, plus a recipe listing the ingredients and an explanation on how to make it.  


To ensure authenticity of the image participants must also place a “post-it” on the photograph of the dish with their name and the name of the recipe. The competition closes on 12 December 2011. MSC Cruises Facebook fans will then be invited to vote for the best ten dishes posted from which Chef Uliassi will decide the ultimate winner. 


The creator of the new MSC Cruises first course award winning dish will win a week’s cruise for two aboard MSC Splendida leaves Genoa on January 7 2011. The ship calls at Barcelona, Valletta, Tunis, Civitavecchia, Marseille before returning to Genoa on 17 January.   


Hailed as the master of seafood cuisine, Chef Uliassi is the co-owner of a restaurant in his birthplace, Senigallia. He has been honoured with two Michelin star status and is the recipient of numerous awards. They include the “Tre Forchette” (Three forks) from the Italian Restaurant Guide; “Il Gambero Rosso” (the red shrimp); the “La Cucina Eccellente” prize for excellent cruise cuisine and the “Riconoscimento di Magnificenza” dell’Accademia della Cucina Italiana” award of magnificence from the Italian Academy of Food.  


He is one of five top celebrity chefs from Europe who will be joining the MSC Cruises fleet for the fine cuisine series of cruises: Spanish chef Paco Roncero is currently aboard the MSC Fantasia 27th November to 8th December Mediterranean cruise;  French chef Gilles Epié will be aboard MSC Splendida for the 28th January to 4th February 2012 cruise; British television star Antony Worral Thompson will be on MSC Splendida from 4th  to 11th February 2012 and German celebrity chef Kolja Kleeberg on the final gastronomic cruise aboard MSC Lirica from 1st  to 12th June 2012.
