P&O to build mega cruise ship

P&O Cruises is throwing its hat into the ring of mega cruise ships with an as-yet unnamed vessel which will carry 3,611 passengers.

The cruise industry is in the midst of a boom, despite recent difficulties in the worldwide travel sector, and it is not just P&O ordering new ships to cater for growing demand.

The next two months will see the launch of four vessels in total. Two smaller ships, the Sebourn Quest for Seabourn Cruise Line and the Viking Prestige for Viking River Cruises will take to the water.

And Costa Cruises will launch its 3,000-berth Costa Favolosa while Celebrity Cruises will follow closely behind with the 2,884-berth Celebrity Silhouette.

Next year will also be busy, with Disney, MSC, Carnival, Costa and Celebrity Cruises all launching new ships.
