Port Canaveral is proving to be one of the favorites among passengers as well as the cruise lines themselves.

For the sixth time in 13 years, Brevard's port was selected as Carnival's top port of embarkation. The rankings come from the company's annual survey in which passengers rate ports in areas such as friendliness of staff, efficiency and timeliness in checking and/or board and how quickly they can disembark and leave the terminal..

Carnival operates the 2,052-passenger Sensation and the 3,646-passenger Dream out of Port Canaveral. In November, Carnival will add a third ship, the 2,052-passenger Ecstasy. Last month, Carnival announced it was moving the Ecstasy from Galveston, Texas, to Port Canaveral for a two-year cruise commitment.

That means Carnival will be carrying an estimated 600,000 passengers each year out of Port Canaveral.

Royal Caribbean International homeports two ships at Port Canaveral, the Monarch of the Seas and the Freedom of the Seas.

Disney Cruise Line bases two ships here. In January, Disney Cruise Line's 4,000-passenger ship, the Dream, began sailing from this port. The Magic also sails from here.

An eighth ship, the Norwegian Sun, is based at the port from mid-October through April.
